La Pedrera
The commission
In 1954 the architect Barba Corsini was commissioned to design apartments to be accommodated in the loft of La Pedrera, the iconic building designed by Antoni Gaudí for the Milà family between 1906-1912. The owners wanted to transform the empty space of the loft into apartments for rent.
F.J. Barba Corsini
The architect
J. F. Barba Corsini (1916-2008) graduated as an architect from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) and started building according to the principles of his academic neoclassical training. In 1953 his career changed direction, heralding a break with the past and a commitment to what he emphatically called “the excitement of feeling Architecture”.
